Q: Can I use the Trainer Toolkit with the AR DS Media Edition?

Answer:

Unfortunately no, the Action Replay DS Media Edition is not compatible with the Trainer Toolkit.

Q: Is there a Pokemon Black & White compatible update availble?

Answer:

The v2.05 firmware update which, is downloadable HERE, is designed for use with ONLY the Action Replay DS Media Edition. The v2.05 firmware update includes support for a number of games including Pokemon Black, Pokemon White and Professor Layton and the Lost Future.

To update your Action Replay Media Edition:

DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB CABLE, REMOVE THE ACTION REPLAY OR POWER OFF THE CONSOLE WHILE UPDATING THE FIRMWARE!

Be sure there are NO game carts inserted into the Action Replay pass-through slot before updating the firmware!

Remove anything that may be inserted in the GBA cart slot of your Nintendo DS / DS lite console before updating firmware!

Verify that the console is fully charged, or connected to AC power before starting the firmware upgrade process!

  1. Download the v2.05 firmware update and uncompress the downloaded file
  2. Using the included PC software disc, install the Action Replay Code Manager PC software
  3. Open the Action Replay Code Manager PC software
  4. Power your console on with the Action Replay Media Edition inserted.
  5. While the Action Replay DS is set to its home screen, select Action Repaly.
  6. From the home screen of the Action Replay, set the Action Replay DS to the update mode by selecting the update (computer mouse) icon from your consoles touch screen.
  7. Connect the Action Replay Media Edition to your computer using the USB cable.
  8. When installed by Windows the Action Replay DS will be detected by the Code Manager PC software which is confirmed by the message ‘Waiting for DS’ no longer being displayed beneath the section ‘Nintendo DS’.
  9. Drag and drop the uncompressed v2.05 firmware update onto the bar located at the top of the Action Replay Code Manager PC software

    The firmware update will now automatically begin, the first part of the update may take a number of minutes to complete.

  10. Select ‘Yes’ to confirm that you would like to write the new firmware, select ‘No’ to cancel at this stage.

    Once the writing of the firmware is complete, the Action Replay Media Edition will automatically disconnect from your computer.

  11. When the message ‘Reboot your NDS now!’ is reported on your consoles screen, restart your console to complete the firmware update.

NOTE: This is a discontinued product. It is no longer sold in US retail stores & compatibility updates may not be available in the future. It's recommended that you update to the DSi Action Replay hardware to ensure future compatibility.

The DSi Action Replay is compatible with the Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL consoles.

Q: How can I backup & restore game saves using the AR DS ME?

Answer:

Follow these steps:

Getting Started:

  1. Ensure that you have a MicroSD card properly inserted into the MicroSD card slot on the Action Replay DS Media Edition.
  2. Be sure there's enough free space on the inserted MicroSD card being used.

NOTE: Some MicroSD cards are not compatible with the Action Replay Media Edition. For example, MicroSD HC (High Capacity) cards do not function properly when used with the Action Replay.

Creating a login name, color scheme & user icon:

  1. Choose "DATAMAX" from the main menu of the Action Repaly.
  2. Choose "ADD NEW" from the user login screen.
  3. Enter a nickname & press "NEXT"
  4. Highlight your desired color scheme and press the A button.
  5. Highlight your desired user icon and press the A button.
  6. Highlight your profile and press the A button.

Backing Up Game Save Data:

  1. Choose "DATAMAX" from the main menu of the Action Repaly.
  2. Be sure the game you wish to backup the save data from is properly inserted into the Action Replay.
  3. Highlight your desired user icon and press the A button.
  4. Select "BACKUP CART" from the user home screen.
  5. Enter the name of the game you will be backing up the save save data for.
  6. Choose "NEXT"
  7. Enter a name for the save you're backing up.
  8. Choose "NEXT"
  9. Enter a brief description of the save you're about to backup.
  10. Choose "NEXT"

Restoring Game Save Data to your Game Cartridge:

  1. Choose "DATAMAX" from the main menu of the Action Repaly.
  2. Be sure the game you wish to restore the save data to is properly inserted into the Action Replay.
  3. Highlight your desired user icon and press the A button.
  4. Select "RESTORE CART" from the user home screen.
  5. Highlight the name of the game you will be restoring.
  6. Choose the desired save for that game.
  7. Choose "NEXT"
Q: My games is not recognized it's showing "Unknown Game"...

Answer:

If your Action Replay DS does not recognize one or more of your games when inserted, please ensure that your Action Replay has codes for the game in question by connecting it to your PC as described in the manual and checking the codelist on the left-hand side. Try updating these codes to the latest US versions by dragging the game listing from the Codejunkies US section on the right side over to the left. After successfully updating these codes, return to the home screen of your Action Replay and re-insert the game.

If you have the DS Action Replay with the pass-through port at the top, please try removing the Action Replay DS at the main menu screen when it says “Insert Game Cart. Insert your game into the DS slot without the Action Replay. If the game is recognized this way, you can select the codes that you wish to use and click “Start without putting the Action Replay DS back into the DS.

If you still receive the error “Unknown Game, then unfortunately you may have an alternate version of the game in question.

Please reply providing us with the following information for all games not recognized after the steps above have been tried.

The Game ID Please follow these steps to find the Game ID Turn on the Nintendo DS with the Action Replay inserted

At the Main Menu when you are instructed to "Insert Game Cart", remove the Action Replay and insert the game.

On the top screen of the DS, the name of the game (or Unknown Game) will appear.

The number under the Game Name is the Game ID. Please write down the Game ID and reinsert the Action Replay DS.

Q: Quick Update gives me a “Could Not Open File" error; why?

Answer:

From time we need to perform routine server maintenance to ensure our website and software are operating efficiently and seamlessly. While this maintenance is being performed, you may experience problems connecting to the code database, as well as the "Quick Update" feature of the Action Replay DS Code Manager Software. You may add new games to the Action Replay during these times manually by dragging the individual game title to the left side of the software from the subscriptions window. We have also created a subscription to the Quick Update through our customer service website.

Q: How do I add a code subscription to the Code Manager?

To add codes from another website to your subscriptions list, you will need to find the link to that website's RSS Feeds (not all websites have this). Once you have the correct link, perform the following steps:

  1. Click on the "Add New Subscription" Button in the AR DS Software.
  2. Copy the above sample link into the "Add New Subscription" Box.
  3. Click “OK"

If successful, you will see any code lists included in the subscription which can be expanded to display their games and codes.

Adding Subscriptions from an unofficial website:

To add codes from another website to your subscriptions list, you will need to find the link to that website's RSS Feeds (not all websites have this).

Once you have the correct link, you can click on the Add New Subscription Button in the AR DS Software and copy the link into the "Add New Subscription" Box.

If successful, you will see any code lists included in the subscription which can be expanded to display their games and codes.

Q: "Load Failed" message in the subscriptions section software...

Answer:

From time to time we must perform routine server maintenance to ensure our website and software are operating efficiently and seamlessly. While this maintenance is being performed, you may experience problems connecting to the code database and receive a load failed error message upon clicking the "+" next to any of the three Codejunkies.com subscriptions.

Upon opeing the Action Replay Code Manager software, you should see 3 different code lists:

  • Codejunkies US Games
  • Codejunkies UK Games
  • Codejunkies JP Games

If these three listings are not being displayed in the subscriptions window, and a "Load Failed" message appears instead, there may be a problem with your PC disabling a connection between the software and our servers. Try disabling any Antivirus or Firewall software that may be enabled, as these can prohibit a connection to our server.

Q: How can I manually enter codes onto my AR DS Media Edition?

Answer:

First you will need to update your Action Replay to the latest firmware. To do this, click on the Software Upgrade button in the upper-right corner of the Code Manager to download the latest version of the PC software. Afterwards, click the button again to download the latest firmware update for your DS AR.

Adding a New Game Title & Codes For It.

  1. Verify if the game title is or is not already listed in the Action Replay code list.
    • Please Note:  If the game title is not already entered into the ActionRepaly, please follow these steps to find the Game ID before beginning the code entry process: Turn on the Nintendo DS with the Action Replay inserted
      1. At the Main Menu when you are instructed to "Insert Game Cart", remove the Action Replay and insert the game.
      2. On the top screen of the DS, verify that the name of the game (or Unknown Game) is displayed.
      3. The sequence of numbers & letters displayed below the text "Unknown Game" is the Game ID.
        EXAMPLE: UBRP-727C35BB
      4. Please write down the Game ID and reinsert the Action Replay DS.

  2. From the main menu of the Action Replay, tap on the Star Shaped icon on the bottom left of the screen with the stylus.
    • “Add New Game should appear at the top of the Game List on the upper screen of the DS.
    • If "Add New Game" does not appear, use the arrow keys to scroll to the top of the list and highlight "Add New Game".

  3. With “Add New Game highlighted, tap on the icon that looks like a Pencil.
    • Please Note: If you are attempting to adding codes to a game that already exists on the Action Replay, look below for the proper instructions.

  4. Enter the Name of the Game.

  5. Enter the Game ID (See step 1 for instructions on how to find this).

  6. Highlight "Add New Code" and tap the Pencil Icon.

  7. Enter the name of the code and tap Next.
    • Please Note:  You may name the code anything you want.

  8. Enter the code in its entirety.
    • Please Note: You must enter every line of the code for it to function properly. You do not need to worry about spaces or new lines, they will be inserted automatically.

  9. Once the code has been fully entered, tap Next.

  10. Follow Steps 6 – 9 for each additional code you wish to enter.

Adding New Codes For A Game That Is Already On Your Code List

  1. From the main menu of the Action Replay, tap on the Star Shaped icon on the bottom left of the screen with the stylus.

  2. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the game list and find the game that you wish to add codes for.

  3. With the game name highlighted, tap on the icon that looks like a Pencil.

  4. The game title should be displayed. If you do not wish to make any changes to the name of the game, choose Next.

  5. The next screen will display the Game ID; tap Next to continue.
    • Please Note:  Do not make any changes to this number.

  6. Highlight “Add New Code and tap the Pencil Icon.

  7. Enter the name of the code and tap Next
    • Please Note:  You may name the code anything you want.

  8. Enter the code in its entirety.
    1. Please Note:  You must enter every line of the code for it to function properly. You do not need to worry about spaces or new lines, they will be inserted automatically.

  9. Once the code has been fully entered, tap Next.

  10. Follow Steps 6 – 9 for each additional code you wish to enter.

The type of USB cable to look for is a USB type A 4-pin male to mini-USB type B 4-pin male cable.

Q: The Code Manager says "Waiting For DS"; what do I do?

Answer:

If your Action Replay DS is not being recognized by the Code Manager Software (always says "Waiting for DS" on the left side), then a driver file may have to be updated on your computer.

Is my version of Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

Here are the steps used to determine if your Windows Vista operating system is 32 or 64 bit.

  1. Click on the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Type "System" into the search bar.
  3. Click on and open System.

When the System Information page has opened and fully loaded you'll see several sections.

Windows edition
This section contains information regarding which edition of Windows and Service Pack you are currently running.

Editions of Windows Vista:

  • Vista Home Basic
  • Vista Home Premium
  • Vista Business
  • Vista Ultimate

System
This section will contain the information regarding your PC's processor type & speed, the amount of available RAM, and which System Type you are currently running; 32bit or 64bit


Windows XP

Please downlaod the latest version of the Code Manager software & uninstall any Code Manager Software that is currently installed on your PC. The software can be found in the support section of www.codejunkies.com

Extract the zipped archive to a folder on your Desktop, and run the included Setup file to install the Action Replay Code Manager Software.

Once the software is installed, connect the Action Replay to the PC via the USB Cable and locate the Action Replay in your PCs Device Manager

Start Menu -> Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager.

In the Device Manager, the Action Replay DS should be listed under USBIO Controlled Devices as Action Replay DS (NDS Link)

If the Action Replay is listed as something else under USBIO Controller Devices or as an Unknown Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, you will need to update the drivers.

To do so:

  • Right Click on the Device and Choose Update Driver
  • Can Windows Connect To Windows Update To Search For Software? -> Choose No, not this time.
  • What Do You Want The Wizard To Do? -> Choose Install from a list or specific location
  • Please Choose Your Search And Installation Options -> Choose Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install.
  • Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware -> Choose Have Disc
  • Copy Manufacturer’s Files From -> Browse & locate the folder that you extracted to your desktop during the software download.
  • Double Click to open the folder and choose the file called ActionReplayDS.inf and click OK.
  • Choose Next in the Hardware Update Wizard
  • If you receive an Update Driver Warning -> Choose Yes to continue installing the drivers.
  • Once the driver installation is complete, the set-up is complete.

Your Action Replay DS should now be recognized by the Code Manager Software.

If the Action Replay is still not recognized by the Code Manager Software

  • Make sure that the Action Replay loads properly in the Nintendo DS when it is not connected to the PC.
  • Make sure that there is no damage to the USB Cable or the Mini USB Port at the top of the Action Replay and that the USB Cable is securely connected to the USB Port.
  • Make sure that the Nintendo DS is powered on and that the Action Replay is inserted into the Nintendo DS and connected to the PC using the USB Cable.
  • Make sure that the Action Replay DS is in "Updating" Mode. Press the Yellow Mouse Button on the Action Replay’s Main Menu to enter "Updating" Mode.
  • Try using a different USB Port on your PC.
  • Make sure to only have one Code Manager window open at a time.

If your Code Manager software still fails to recognize the Action Replay after trying the steps above when connected to different USB ports, then please contact us by using the "Still Need Help" section of this site. Please provide us with answers to these questions:

  1. What is the category the device is listed as in your computer's Device Manager (USBIO Controlled Devices, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, etc.)?
  2. Is the driver currently listed as NDS Data Max, NDS Link, Action Replay Link, or something else in your computer's Device Manager?
  3. What operating system are you using? If Vista, is it a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?
  4. What version of Code Manager Software do you currently have installed? (To find this, click on the 4 dots at the top left of the Code Manager Software Window and Choose “About Action Replay Code Manager”. The Software Version will be listed in the box that pops up.)
  5. Is there any visible damage to the Action Replay’s USB Port or the USB Cable?
  6. When the Action Replay is on the main menu, does the Yellow Mouse Button appear on the top right of the touch screen?

If you are attempting to use the Nintendo DS Action Replay with a 64-bit version of Windows Vista or Windows XP, please follow these steps:

Windows XP / Vista 64-Bit Users:

Q: Pokémon Diamond / Pearl - Stuck in the Mystery Zone...

Answer:

When using Action Replay codes, be sure to read any notes that our code creators have deemed necessary to place on certain codes; these notes can be found on www.codejunkies.com or by tapping the INFO button on the Action Replay.

INFO button:
If a particular code or group of codes has some information associated with them you will see the INFO button appear. Tap it with your stylus to display the associated notes; tap it again to clear them.

If you have used the "Walk Anywhere" or "Run Anywhere" codes for Pokémon Diamond / Pokémon Pearl and saved your game while in a "Mystery Zone", inside of an object, entered Wi-Fi Mode, or saved while in one of the black areas of the game, your character may become permanently locked in that location. The following code was developed to assist those people who have accidentally saved their game progress while in one of these locations.

STEP 1 – Entering the "Mystery Zone Fix" code.

  1. Insert Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl into the pass-through slot of the Nintendo DS Action Replay.
    NOTE: If you do not have a pass-through port on your Action Replay, proceed to #2.
  2. Insert the Action Replay into the game slot.
  3. Turn the Nintendo DS on.
    NOTE: If you have a pass-through slot on your Action Replay, proceed to #5.
  4. Replace the Action Replay with either Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl.
  5. Add the following code to your existing Pokémon Diamond or Pearl code list.
    NOTE: You may either manually enter the code, or use the Action Replay Code Manager software.
    • Mystery Zone Fix (HOLD SELECT WHILE SAVING)
      NOTE: Press SELECT then X if your save menu will not appear.

STEP 2 – Enabling the Mystery Zone Fix

  1. Enable ONLY the "Mystery Zone Fix" code and tap the on-screen start button.
  2. Load your Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl game save progress.
  3. The moment the save data has loaded, press the X button to access the in game menu.
    NOTE: DO NOT press any buttons before pressing X to ensure access the proper in game menu.
  4. Choose “SAVE from the menu.
  5. When prompted with "Would you like to save the game?", choose YES.
  6. A second prompt will now appear; "There is already a saved file. Is it OK to overwrite it?"
  7. The moment you choose "YES" to the second prompt, PRESS AND HOLD the SELECT button.
  8. Continue to hold the SELECT button down while the game progress is being saved.
  9. Once the game has confirmed that the save was successful, power off the Nintendo DS.

STEP 3 – Verifying & Completing Fix

  1. With the power OFF, and no Action Replay is connected to your Nintendo DS, insert your game cartridge.
  2. Power ON the Nintendo DS.
  3. Load the existing game save data.
  4. Enter any one of the nearby houses.
  5. Exit the house.
  6. Open the in game menu by pressing X and save your game data one final time.
