Q: How do I play video on my DS?

To play videos using the application in the newest update for the Max Media Player software, first please update your Max Media Player files to the appropriate version by downloading the updated Max Media Player bootme.nds file from the link below. Many downloadable files available from www.codejunkies.com will be archived in .zip format. Most modern versions of Windows will allow you extract the files from these archives, but if you do not have the option to do this please visit www.winzip.com for more information about obtaining software to extract files from this type of archive.

After extracting the bootme.nds file from this archive, connect your Max Media Dock or Max Media Player 4GB HD to your PC using the provided USB cable. The unit should be recognized as an external USB drive, and may be accessed in My Computer. Drag the bootme.nds file from your PC to this drive to transfer the updated software.

Next, download the D3V encoding software form the link above. This software will be used to convert your existing video files to the right format for the DS. The setup file should also be extracted from the .zip archive similar to the previous file downloaded. Double-click on the extracted setup file to install the encoding software on your PC.

To start the encoder, go to Start menu -> All Programs -> MAX DS Video Converter -> MAX DS Video Converter. The Video Converter window will open, allowing you to choose Open, Exit, and Encode. Click on the Open button and browse for the video file you would like to convert. Highlight the desired file and click Open to import the file. The Encode button should now be selectable. Click this button to convert your video to D3V format. The newly converted file will be placed in the same location as the original, and you will know the process was completed when the status bar fills completely.

Now simply drag this file to any location in your Max Media Dock or 4GB HDD, such as the Video folder. To play this video, disconnect the unit from your PC, and insert it into the GBA port of your DS while the Max Media Player cartridge is in the DS slot. Turn on your DS, and the Max Media Player interface should load, displaying the new version information on the top screen. Locate your video file and double-tap it to play your newly converted video.

Q: My Max Media Dock only loads to a white screen on the DS, and is not recognized on my PC.

Please ensure the CF card is inserted properly in your Max Media Dock. If the card is upside down, you may only receive a blank white screen after the Max Media Player software loads on your DS, and your PC may not recognize the Max Media Dock. On the underside of your CF card you should find one or two notches towards the edge of the card. These notches should be facing down when the card is plugged into the Max Media Dock.

If you are sure the card is properly connected, but you are still having problems, try formatting the card and reinstalling the startup files. Connect the Max Media Dock to your PC using the provided USB cable (It should be disconnected from the DS). The Dock should be shown as a removable drive in My Computer. Right-click on this drive and choose format, selecting either FAT or FAT32 as the file system in your formatting options, and this will erase all data on the card. Next, visit www.codejunkies.com and click on the button to see the US site. Scroll down to the bottom of the front page, and click on the link for the Max Media Player mini-site. Here, in the Support and Downloads section, you may find a link to download the startup files for your Max Media Dock on the right side of the screen. The files will come in the form of a .zip archive, which should be extracted to an easy to find area on your PC. After extraction, copy all of the files that were inside the archive directly to the Max Media Dock. After performing these steps, the Max Media Dock should function normally in your DS.

Q: Where can I find emulators and ROMs for my Max Media Dock?

Although the DS Max Media Player will allow you to run appropriate DS homebrew applications on your DS, we do not include any particular emulation software or have ROMs of any type available. Please be aware that Datel does not condone the illegal use of pirated commercial ROMs. Commercial software would be considered any game that was created and sold by a videogame manufacturer, and they are protected by intellectual copyright laws. We highly recommend only downloading software which is distributed for free by the software author.
